Dr Joan Mwende Kiema is currently the County Executive Committee Member for Social Services, Youth, Culture and Gender, Embu County, Kenya. She holds a PhD in Education from Kenyatta University, a -Master of Arts degree in Disaster Management from the University of Nairobi and a Bachelor of Education degree in English and Literature from Moi University. Joan is a Seasoned Administrator having been a high school teacher at Ikutha Boys and Moi Nairobi Girls secondary schools. She was the Principal of Kyaani Girls Secondary school in Kitui between 1993 and 1995.

Thereafter she worked at the Kenya Teachers Service Commission head office as an administrator; rising to the level of Deputy Director up until 2015 when she joined Equity Bank as the General Manager for Education till 2015 when she was appointed minister in Embu County Kenya. Joan has a plethora of skills including: teaching skills, facilitation skills, project design and management skills, Gender management, authorship skills, report writing, community mobilisation skills, disaster prevention, performance management, conflict resolution and partnerships. She is an avid crusader for children’s rights and enjoys dancing, composing music, singing, meeting people and reading.
