François is a medical doctor and the former founding Director of the Bertha Centre for Social Innovation & Entrepreneurship at University of Cape Town, a globally recognised academic centre dedicated to advancing social innovation in Africa. His career spans 20 years working in clinical medicine, development programmes, PPPs, and social ventures during which he has been recognised as a Rhodes Scholar; WEF Global Leadership Fellow; Archbishop Tutu African Leadership Fellow. He is a board member of the Tshisimani Centre for Activist Educationand an Associate Fellow of the Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship at the University of Oxford, and is currently on sabbatical writing a book about the systemic work of social entrepreneurs.
