Yves Guinand has been working since 2009 at the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) Headquarters in Bern, Switzerland. He is a Senior Regional Advisor on rural development, agricultural research and in Engaging with the Private Sector for the Regional Cooperation Division for Southern Africa, East and North Africa and Occupied Palestinian Territory (SENAP). Before he worked at SDC’s Global Program on Food Security and managed for Switzerland the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) among other duties. He is also specialised in biodiversity issues as well as on remote sensing and satellite technology for agricultural insurances in developing countries.
Before his appointment at SDC in Switzerland he coordinated the SDC Regional Office for the Great Lakes Region in Bujumbura, Burundi from 2005 to 2009. Mr. Guinand has extensive experience on food security issues and in the field of sustainable land and disaster risk management. From 1998-2003 he worked for the UN-OCHA coordination Office in Ethiopia as Deputy Head. He holds a PhD in Geography from the University of Berne and has also been working as a scientist for the World Agroforesty Center in Kenya, Uganda and Burundi
