Mrs Helene Budliger Artieda is the extraordinary and plenipotentiary Ambassador of Switzerland to the Republic of Botswana, to the Kingdom of Lesotho, to the Republic of Mauritius, to the Republic of Namibia, in the Republic of South Africa, to the Kingdom of Swaziland and accredited as Switzerland’s observer to the Southern African Development Community. The Ambassador took office in September 2015 and resides in Pretoria.

From October 2008 to September 2015, Mrs Budliger Artieda was the Director General of the Directorate for Resources at the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), with the rank of Ambassador. In this capacity she was responsible for the human and financial resources, the facilities, information technology as well as security of the FDFA. She was the Minister’s principal advisor on management issues.

As of 2006 she was appointed Chief Financial Officer of the FDFA. During 2000 and 2006, she was assigned to different finance positions at the FDFA’s Headquarters in Bern. This included being the Head of the Unit in charge of managing the budgeting process of the missions abroad and later as Head of the Section for Finance Support and Controlling.

Mrs Budliger Artieda joined the FDFA back in 1985. Between 1985 and 2000 she was posted at the following Swiss missions abroad: Lagos, Havana, San Francisco, Strasbourg, Lima and Bogota.

Born in Zurich in 1965, Mrs Budliger Artieda received an MBA from Externado de Colombia University in Bogota.
